Cheektowaga Police Shoot Suspect Who Charged Them With Knife

Buffalo, N.Y. — On August 13, 2025 Cheektowaga Police Officers responded to 269 sanders road in the city of buffalo attempting to make an arrest for a violent assault occurring August 11, 2025 at a genesee street hotel in Cheektowaga. CPD officers filed for a warrant and were attempting to locate the male wanted for the assault as there was believed to be a public safety risk based on the suspects behavior. Cheektowaga police dispatch notified buffalo police that officers would be attempting to locate a suspect at 269 sanders rd. A stay away order of protection was in place that the suspect was not allowed to be within 100 feet and within a 1 block radius of the address. Information was obtained that the suspect was potentially inside apartment 4 of 269 sanders road. While attempting to make contact, 60-year-old Hugh Davis, Jr. came out of the apartment and attempted to stab officers multiple times with a large knife. One of the officers fired his pistol three times at Davis, at nearly point-blank range. An officer made a shots fired call and went outside with another officer to retrieve medical kits. Police called for AMR and Buffalo fire, and then attempted lifesaving measures. Davis was later declared dead at the scene. No officers suffered physical injuries during the fatal encounter.
