A Delta Air Lines Boeing 767-400ER (N836MH), operating as flight DL446 from Los Angeles (LAX) to Atlanta (ATL), experienced a left engine fire shortly after takeoff on July 18, 2025
The flight crew declared an emergency and returned safely to LAX approximately 15 minutes after departure, landing on runway 25L. Ground observers reported seeing continuous flames from the left engine. All 224 passengers and crew aboard the aircraft were unharmed, and the fire was extinguished upon landing.
The FAA has launched an investigation into the incident. Delta Air Lines stated that the flight crew followed procedures and safely returned to the gate. Passengers were rebooked on a new aircraft to continue their journey to Atlanta.
