🚨Suspect Armed with 2 Knives Charges and Stabs N.Y. Police Officer

Amherst, N.Y. — On July 12, 2025, The officers were dispatched to a residence in the 4800 block of N. Bailey Avenue for a domestic disturbance. As they were responding to the incident, they were made aware that the male subject, 26-year-old Rayquell Grant, had two active warrants. The first officers on scene were Lt. Matthew Lobuglio and Officer Aiden Vangelov. The officers attempted to make contact with Grant by yelling into the residence for him. Very shortly thereafter, Grant exits the rear window of the residence, armed with two knives and he charges at officer Vangelov. Officer Vangelov was stabbed in the arm and shoulder.

As that was happening, Lt. Lobuglio tried using his taser on Grant, but the attempt failed. Grant was then kicked away by Vangelov, and at that point both officer used their service weapon and shot Grant in his side and elbow. A total of five shots were fired, according to Amherst Police. From the time that Grant left the window of the house to the time that the officers used force against him was 6 seconds. Immediately upon stopping the threat, the officers initiated efforts to render first aid to Grant. An ambulance was requested. Officers retrieved medical kits and they began performing first aid on him within a minute of this incident. Grant and the injured officer were both taken to the hospital following the incident. Grant remains in serious condition, while Officer Vangelov has been treated and released for his injuries and is going to be OK.
